The Surroundings of caSAnosa

Lires is undoubtedly the quintessential village for enjoying a sunset over the sea. Galicia’s smallest estuary is also located in this village, whose population triples in the summer. It is also recognized as one of the best spots for fishing, as you can fish both in the open sea and in the river.

As for fishing, sea bass and white seabream are the most abundant species along its coastline. In Lires, you can also catch other varieties such as horse mackerel, sole, and others. A fish that is well-known and highly prized by locals is the lubión. This unique little fish burrows beneath the sand on the beach, and when the tide goes out, fishermen set out to catch it using a sickle as their fishing tool.

Lires boasts a coastline rich in shellfish, with barnacles being the most prized. There are also soft-shell crabs, mussels, and spider crabs. The unique characteristics of the coastline make this stretch of shore exceptional. Octopus is also one of the most common products found along its shores.

The beach bar is another major attraction, as most visitors appreciate being able to sit and relax while enjoying a good meal or simply a snack. Although walking is recommended, there are plenty of parking spaces at the end of the beach as well as at the beach bar itself.

It’s also worth noting that the village is part of stage eight of the Camiño dos Faros. It marks the end of the 200-kilometer coastal route.
